Longchamp History

A family history since 1948

French luxury House Longchamp was founded in Paris in 1948 by Jean Cassegrain, and is still owned and run by the Cassegrain family today. Longchamp’s handbags, luggage and accessories have a worldwide reputation for craftsmanship and quality, which now extends to ready-to-wear, shoes and eyewear collections.

The audacity of a Parisian tabacconist

It is in the heart of the Capital, on Boulevard Poissonière, that one of the most extraordinary stories of leather goods began. In the 1940's, Jean Cassegrain, the son of a tobacconist, took over his father's civet, Au Sultan. He quickly turned to the most talented leather craftsmen in Paris and revolutionized the world of tobacco. He creates the famous leather-wrapped pipe this founding a cult object, and securing his entry into the universe of luxury.

Longchamp, a family story

To describe Longchamp, is to write a family story. That of the Cassegrain family, who inherited the passion for leather and creativity from the House's founder: Jean Cassegrain. Today, Longchamp is driven by the second and third generation. At its head, dynamic figures that rely on that family strength to grow Longchamp as a major brand, across continents.

Longchamp workshops

For decades, the workshops have maintained their quest for the perfectly finished product, ensuring each bag and accessory is a one-of-a-kind creation that embodies Longchamp artisanship and expertise. Longchamp is committed to maintaining and passing on know-how, and has set up specific training and apprenticeship programs in the regions in France where its workshops are located.
